Our Story
A new chapter on family land
Starved Rock Trees began with a love of Christmas and a question: what could be next for our family farm?
For more than 100 years, the Cofoid family has farmed corn and soybeans on this land in Deer Park, Illinois. In the spring of 2025, father and son Scott and Connor Cofoid began exploring a new idea for a small piece of it: growing Christmas trees.
After a year of research, planning and preparing the ground, we planted our first 1,500 seedlings in the spring of 2026. Those little trees marked the beginning of a new chapter for the farm, but Christmas trees take time. Our fields are still young, and it will be several years before we're ready to welcome families out to choose a tree of their own.
We didn't want to wait that long to start celebrating Christmas with you.
So while our trees grow, we're bringing a little bit of the farm to the community through fresh Christmas trees, handmade wreaths and greenery, and seasonal workshops with local businesses throughout the Starved Rock region.
Someday, these small seedlings will become Christmas trees for families across our community. Until then, we're excited to grow the farm, build new traditions and share a little more of the story each Christmas.
